You know as I have been watching the coverage of Gov. Palin and the rabid, and I mean rabid response to her selection by ultra liberal democratic party operatives and feminists, the old Sojourner Truth rant came to mind, “Aint I A Woman?”
I have no problem with the other side disagreeing with Gov. Palin on the issues. That is fair and legitimate, but I do have a problem with the politics of personal destruction. Senator Obama himself has decried these tactics as has Senator McCain and I think on balance both of them have honored this pledge.
I would ask my sisters in the feminist movement to STOP and get a GRIP. Sarah Palin is a woman and she is one that sets a fine example for our young girls and women in this era of American politics. Can the other side puhleeze GET OVER the abortion issue.
If McCain wins, the Senate will have the responsibility of protecting Roe v. Wade when it decides whether or not to confirm McCain Supreme Court Justices.
Let the Senate do their job sisters–have faith in your institutions of governance.
What I like about this pick (and everyone knows I was leaning heavy in Obama’s direction prior to her selection as McCain’s running mate) is that she is one of us–a regular–working class roots girl, played high school basketball, married her high school sweetheart, and is a common sense politician, a wife, mom, and a committed reformer of broken, corrupt government.
This all comes down to judgment folks. Check your history before you attack this woman and write her off as a bimbo beauty queen from Alaska. Give her the same chance that Barack Obama has been given for the past 18 months to tell us who he is and what he believes in. I see some ugly gender bias raising its head once again, just as it did against Senator Clinton during the democratic primaries.
I personally am very excited about both Barack and Sarah (and of course Michelle Obama) because they are all GENxers! It is about time the Baby Boomers started to move aside and let us have a shot at shaking things up in our pop culture and in our politics.
My only suggestion is that we remember that there is more to a person than what they may believe on social issues or economic issues. We need to do a better job of selecting our politicians from outside of the box frankly. We need to harken back to what prompted great men and women to form this great nation of ours, and engage in civil disobedience and protest that gave blacks and women the very rights that we have today.
America should be proud of both of these candidates for our nation’s highest offices. Both of them are shattering the proverbial glass ceiling and both of them are causing quite a stir!
